Your path to a collaborative, inclusive, progressive education begins here. The resources below will help you navigate the application process so that you can begin to imagine yourself on campus.

Zakat Foundation Institute is a one-year fellowship program that requires you to take 18 graduate credits at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy leading to a Graduate Certificate in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University.

In addition, you will receive a Graduate Certificate in Muslim Philanthropy and Humanitarian Studies from The Institute. The program will be part of the newly-established Muslim Philanthropy Initiative.

The Fellowship is funded by the Zakat Foundation of America and was established in partnership with the Center on Muslim Philanthropy

Fellowship Eligibility

To be eligible for the Zakat Foundation Institute Fellowship you must:

  1. Be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Philanthropic Studies or M.A. in Philanthropic Studies program.

  2. Have a demonstrated interest in Islam AND Muslim philanthropy, nonprofit and/or humanitarian sectors.

  3. Be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Muslim Philanthropy and Humanitarian Studies at Zakat Foundation Institute.

Fellowship Application Steps

Step 1 – Apply

Apply to the Graduate Certificate in Philanthropic Studies and MA in Philanthropic Studies at Indiana University (IU) Lilly Family School of Philanthropy or Apply through ZFI.

Step 2 – Confirm Acceptance

Wait to hear back on your acceptance to the Indiana University Graduate Certificate in Philanthropic Studies or MA in Philanthropic Studies.

Step 3 – Apply for ZFI Funding

Upon acceptance, apply for Zakat Foundation Institute (ZFI) Fellowship Funding.

Enroll in the prescribed courses for the program.

  • The Zakat Foundation Institute Fellowship program provides tuition for the program at Indiana University.

  • Zakat Foundation Institute pays tuition directly to Indiana University.

  • Students must take the courses that Zakat Foundation Institute Fellowship requires to be eligible for scholarship funding.
